Arthur Skelhorn :: 1911-1925

First game 28/01/1911  Last game 21/03/1925    Played 259 Tries 49 Goals 1 Points 149

Arthur Skelhorn signed for Warrington in 1911 from local junior side Stockton Heath.  He received a signing on fee of £ 5 and so did his amateur club.  It proved to be money well spent.

He played at prop in the Warrington side defeated by the Huddersfield team of “All Stars”, 5-9 in the 1913 Challenge Cup Final.  This proved to be the only final of his long career.

Skelhorn was selected for the 1920 tour of Australia along with fellow prop Billy Cunliffe.  They formed part of a formidable Great Britain front row that was much feared by the Australians.  Arthur was on the winning side six times out of seven against the Aussies playing for Great Britain, England, Lancashire and Warrington.

Arthur was a versatile forward who played every position in the pack.  As a loose forward in the 1920/21 season he finished as the Club’s leading try scorer with 10.  From 1919/20 to 1921/22 he regularly was selected for representative honours, winning 7 Great Britain caps, 3 England caps and made 6 appearances for Lancashire.

Arthur was made captain for his final season 1924/25 before his retirement.  He scored a try in his last match, a 23-11 victory over Huddersfield at Wilderspool.
